First of all, he was an unexpected purchase… like TOTALLY unexpected… i never thought i’d get him but since he was on sale with a certain bonus i JUST HAVE TO GET HIM! So here it is, the review of Super Robot Chougokin’s Gao! Gai! Gar!
Excuse the rather beaten box though, as it was a sale item i couldn’t care less about the box it came in, as long as everything inside is intact. Do note however the box is not that thick. But as you can see it packs quite a lot inside that small packaging. Which i gotta hand it to Bandai to make blister designs that saves space lol.
Pffft yeah, i wouldn’t worry about that in an SRC line, watch…
And there you have the answer, Stealth Gao, the part that made his wings have foldable wings, not by much but it does allow for some major clearance for posability. Also, note the linings on it and the crispness of it. Pretty sweet i say.
Now let’s move onto the details.
Look at that detailed face sculpt, you can actually see the eyes in that thick bulky head of his. Everything is just worth every cash i burnt for this guy (not that i burnt much since he’s on sale XD)
Moving on to his chestplate, the lion head. As you can see the jaw on mine is a little bit crooked to the left side (his left side), but from afar it’s not really apparent and i guess it’s just one of those common things people screw up once in a while. Another good addition is that it can open and close depending on the situation and the pose you set GGG in.
Does he have articulation clearance problem on the ab? NOT AT ALL. His abs has 2 joints, one connecting the upper torso to the ab, then the ab to the hip. His skirt is also can me moved around to a rather wide angle, ensuring him able to do dynamic poses.
For those of you that knows or watches the GGG anime, you know damn well HOW HUGE some of his extension weapon units are. The size of his hand is rather… worrying… but for that matter, you might need some extra stands like the Tamashii Stage ACT.5 Mechanics that are designed specifically for mechas and can sustain the weight. Thus, reducing the load on his little bicep.
About the Tamashii Stage ACT.5 Mechanics, you guys should really get it if you have a lot of model kits/mechas/src’s it’s not a bad deal really since a box of it contains not 1, not 2, but THREE sets of the tamashi stage kit. So for the price of just around $12 – $13 it’s definitely worth the purchase. We’ll get to that later as i MIGHT actually review the kit itself.
Now as you can see his shoulders are amazing pieces of work. Not only it’s finely sculpted, it’s also detailed and with a little extra gimmick of a semi clear hood on the Gao Liner. It’s a nice touch.
Moving onto the hands you can also see that it’s an amazing piece of work. The forearm is different between left and right, but both are highly detailed and crisply painted. The hands though are rather coarse but they’re all good, nothing that can be seen unless you really zoom in on it.
Moving onto the legs as you can see it’s also finely detailed and sculpted. There are complaints that some people have a rather loose leg joint, but i haven’t had it on my case. The drill on the knee is also nicely painted and POINTY, be careful not to let minors get to toy with it cause it will bleed something, or worse.
As you can see from this pose, he has really no issues with posability. Don’t let some SRC’s build fool you. Bandai planned it and designed it well so it can still be dynamic. as you can see his shoulders pose no problem since the Stealth Gao wings can be folded to a certain degree.
Now comes the fun part, let’s see what he comes with.
The first part would be the effect part for the Broken Magnum.
The second part is a clear plastic part and a matching hand gesture to show when he’s blocking a zonder’s projectile attack with his shield. I personally love this part and the hand gesture as it’s really just an awesome “Bi*** please” move 😄
The third part is all the hand gestures for emulating the whole Heaven and Hell move,
That’s all? Nope, withing the package, as you can see on the box arts, he came with the Dividing Driver. Now before you take a look i must tell you that it’s really LONG…
As you can see the Dividing Driver is inserted by replacing his left hand and just plug it in. Do note that Despite the details and the metallic nature of the looks, it’s fairly light. But for safety reasons and joint longetivity, it’s best not to pose it in a way that it would burden his small biceps.
Well as you can see inside the package there are a lot of stuff given with the GaoGaiGar SRC that it’s definitely worth your every penny.
The details, the sculpt, the articulation (save for his rather small biceps) and the stuff that comes with him inside his package is enough reason for those that are either an SRC collector, a mecha fan or a GGG fan can ask for.
Remember the part when i said i also bought a little something along with GGG in the sale?
As you know banda sold GGG’s weapons as seperate “weapons sets”. Set 1 is the Goldion Hammer, Set 2 is Stealth Gao II that can turn GGG into Star GGG, Set 3 is for Chouryuujin, and set 4 is the Dimensional Pliers (a tamashii web limited item). I only got the 1st set since it’s the only one available at that moment.
Now let’s take a look what it actually does.
the Marg Hand, in which Goldimarg changed into a hand that GGG can equip is one huge monstrosity, and to make it better (and worse at the same time) it’s mostly die cast. Meaning that you WILL need some kind of support to keep that hand up, either by using the hammer or using a seperate stand set. Do note however that if you plan to equip this set for long you might need that support more than you think because if you remembered a few pics back up, GGG has a really small bicep…
Let’s walk through the process of How GGG uses the Goldion Hammer after he equips the Marg Hand. On the Way you can see what else he comes with.
To answer your questions:
1. Yes, it’s finely sculpted and detailed.
2. No, It’s not all die cast there are plastic parts to it but it’s 75% diecast and are heavy like one…
3. Yes, it’s one big mo****f***er.
4. Yes, it’s awesome
If you’re a mecha fan, get him, If you like articulated mechas that can be posed dynamically, get him. If you’re a fan of GGG, get him. If you collect SRCs, get him. If you just like how badass GGG is, get him.
as a disclaimer, get a Tamashii Stage Act 5 Mechanics while you’re at it. You will NOT be disappointed.
