Review: Busou Shinki - MMS Type Tentacles - Mary Celes Lemuria

Welcome to another Busou Shinki review. This review might be a little bit weird written since I’m still recovering from being sick and hospitalized but i hope you can still enjoy it. So without any more delay, here’s the review of Busou Shinki, MMS Type Tentacles, Mary Celes Lemuria.

Let’s begin with taking a look at the box. Which you’ll have to excuse because it’s rather dented here and there due to bad shipping process.

As you can see the box is not in quite the mint condition, due to bad shipping and handling. Luckily none of the contents are tampered or broken or missing.

Take note also that this is the Lemuria variant of the original Mary Celes, as it sports a different color scheme and also a new extra. Let’s see the side descriptions.

As you can see, Mary Celes Lemuria is made by Ovest Posso Fabbrica. The same manufacturer that made Honoka, although this Mary Celes is of the Lemuria variant as seen on the code OP010T/L. It is also mentioned in the description here that the Lemuria variant came with an extra, A huge gunsword called the Maelstrom Blade.

As the whole theme of Mary Celes is that of a Scylla/Octopus/Squid, the name itself is derived from the infamous ghost ship Mary Celeste. As to why it’s called Type Tentacles… well i suppose that’s the right of the designers at OPF.

Now let’s take a look inside her box and see what she comes with.

As you can see she doesn’t contain as much part as say Miho or Eiko, or even Honoka. But let’s see if her customizability can make up for it, for now, let’s activate her.

Uh… how did that happen?

I didn’t even press anything yet, it’s like she auto synced and activated herself o_O

… now that’s unexpected, it’s like she just snapped into somebody else …

Anyway it’s probably just my feeling due to being half sick and all, but there’s something odd about her…

Well let’s move on to the review by viewing her front and back side.

About her colors, i like it. It’s monotonic but not stale, probably because despite her simple color scheme she has linings and details going all over her body. But there is a detail on her chest just like Honoka’s…

Here, let me zoom in and add some light to it.

Just like Honoka, she has Ovest Pozzo Fabbrica written on her chest. But due to the coloring it might be hard to read from afar. No, I’m not saying that her rather small bust doesn’t help, but I’m saying it’s barely readable due to the color scheme. Besides, I’m not really a bust guy.

She has a nice smile, i like her.

Anyway, let’s cover her armaments now and see how unique it is.

As you can see, her tentacles made up a gown like outfit on her.

I suppose it works also as a defensive measure besides being an extra limb to either catch or grab something. Also on some of the side of her tentacles is a rose with OPF’s code and her name written on it. I like that detail. But what should be considered here is the size of her rear part. It’s huge, maybe it works as a thruster besides being a protective measure.

Now as you can see, she is wearing a bonnet… But it also can turn and cover her face turning into a mask, despite no lenses are present the mask can still scan things. She probably doesn’t even need to see as the mask relays EVERYTHING to her like a sonar. She doesn’t need to see if something’s there, she KNOWS it’s there. She can tell where it’s going to move, when and how it’ll move.

And that, i guess is another feature of her mask, enabling her to see more than what’s visually present. Much like a blind man’s “senses” are sharp enough to know despite that they can’t see it…

Creepy, but it’s definitely useful as visual trickery or ailments won’t hinder her in a battle.

Also on another note that her whole gown can RISE, letting the tentacles act as a full body armor protecting her from th-

That… is as creepy as it’s funny and cute…

oooohkay let’s move on to her weapons there…

As you can see her weapons are all melee weapons with the exception of  her grenades and axe gun… But come to think of it, with how her mask works she can easily dodge a beam rifle or a bullet with ease. I mean she can just “sense” where it’s being shot at and calculate it’s trajectory and speed.

On a personal note… she does come with rather brutal melee weapons like an axe that can be turned into a halberd, dual swords and whatnots… It’s like she’s made to hurt you slowly instead of killing you on the spot… Creepy…

Ok she DOES look creepy…

And next we have the weapon that the original Mary Celes doesn’t get, The Maelstrom Blade. This gunblade is huge and i mean HUGE, it’s as big as SHE is…

As you can see her gunblade is ridiculously huge, and her hands are strong enough to wield it as easy as her tentacles. Quite an amusing fact considering that she is a SMALL sized MMS body.

Well anyway the girls can’t see her yet since they’re all still charging and aslee-

SO let’s wrap this up quick shall we?

There are ups and downs in getting her, and there are flaws like minor sculpt issues on some of her tentacles. Some of them are TOO STIFF, this can be good AND bad. Good as in it will stay put and strong enough to support her, bad as in you will have a hard time turning it around to various positions.

But other than that i like her, i like her smile. Although i have to admit, she’s the first shinki that kind of sprung itself to life… That creeps me out a bit…

With this i’ll give her…

As getting her is purely optional, i give her the preference award.

This is because some might like her some might not, those who likes her would love her and those who doesn’t would ignore her. So she is totally up to your preferences in a Shinki.

Anyway sorry that the review is rather simple and short. I still need to recover myself from my sickness.

I better get Honoka to help her get used to this place.
